Our Daily Sled #158

Oh baby! Leo Payne's 200+MPH '57 sportster. It's inspired a ton of bikes both for show and go but there is still only one Turnip Eater.

The Purpose #28

Last Night...

Most of the crew gathered here last night to welcome the new scoots into the house for the winter. Bottles were drained and pots were emptied - all went home warm and fuzzy. Thanks to those who made the night including Jeb, who earned top honors by showing up on two wheels in the 20 degree midnight air sans heated equipment. Well done man.

Chi-Town Hustler

Had the pleasure of meeting The Horses' own Gennaro Sepe this past year at the mods VS rockers show. He had just finished building the bike in the photo at the time of the event. I had to leave early that day to ride back to the D but Marzel stayed and apparently tore it down that night with Gennaro and his crew all over Chicago. Damn - that would have been fun. I can say from experience Gennaro is an exceptionally pleasant human and knows something about building a bike with style.

Last Night...Black Dub

Guitar Jesus Daniel Lanois' latest creation Black Dub played here in the rain soaked D last night. The band is made up of two Lanois veteran session players Brian Blade (drums) and Daryl Johnson (bass) with Trixie Whitley - daughter of the late Texas bluesman Chris Whitley - on lead vocals. They blew the lid off the shack and burned down the outhouse while they were at it. I heard the roof hissing in the cold rain as I bolted from the door on the way out. If they show up near you defiantly make the time. Click the title for linkage.

...was dry and warm(ish), so we rode to D'amato's for beers and eggs with the partial crew while Geno's band tore it down in the background. Good times. Tonight amazingly it felt like it was in the 60's, I heard there may be snow on the ground by Thanksgiving...hope not cuz tradition has me riding to dinner. Keeping fingers crossed...

"The Mel"

Sure enough a few of us got the VIP treatment last night in the D thanks to Walter and the Mel. Thanks Walter!

Walter's In-Country

Looking forward to hanging out with Walter from Kickstart Cycle Supply tonight. He's one of Indiana's second favorite (gotta save that top spot for my man Shoe) son's main Roadies. That is he keeps "the Mellencamp" out of the pyrotechnics and in tune. The show comes to the fox tonight so it looks like I'll get a chance to share a beer with my main man from Jersey. Now we can plot our Born-Free trip at length!

Cannonball Recap by SLOJO

Speaking of buying the ticket and taking the ride, our very good friend SloJo did just that on the recent coast to coast early iron Cannonball. Turns out not only does Joe build beautifully functional motorsickels he's also fairly sharp with a pen. He has one of the most popular threads on the AMCA's forum recalling his days on the road with the Grey Ghost (where are those t-Shirts Joe?!). Get into Joe's head by clicking the title up there...

Urban Enduro.

Never get out of the Boat...

It had no rivals when it was originally made and it still stands alone. From a pure visceral experience baseline nothing can touch it. If you've never watched it, and you call yourself an adrenaline junkie, then buy the ticket and take the ride.

Thumbs Up!

On Saturday, after tending to the flathead I decided to squeeze every last drop of life out of (maybe) the last semi-warm day here in the mitten. I had missed a ride around "the Thumb" last Monday arranged by some of the crew. So with an itch to see Lake Huron one last time before the snows, I bolted East and began my loop. Going from the freshly turned corn fields of the mid-thumb to the quaint little harbor towns overlooking Huron's slumbering coast is always a satisfying experience and this run was no exception. When the sun began to drop so did the temp - with a vengeance, so it was time to close the circuit and get back home to the fire which I did just as the moon peaked over the roof tops of my quiet little neighborhood. Sounds like a bedtime story right? Well for the Duc it was...

Fall Flathead

I woke up on Saturday morning late. The sun was already halfway through it's arc across the late autumn sky. I decided to give the '39 some love and took it for a little rip. Near the end I topped off the tank for it's winter hibernation and took these pics before rolling it inside the house.

37 D-Greez Part II

Ample bike parking tonight at the Lager House...where the hell is everybody? Oh, that's right, they are all sane and riding in heated automobiles. Tipsy joined me for a couple cold ones and then scooted off home. Closer to midnight I rolled out of downtown for the hills - the thermometer read 35 degrees when I got home. Rosemary's electrical system died in the driveway, possibly a toasted coil or generator...her way of saying "bring me into your living room for the winter."

37 D-Greez

Tipsy and I rode into work this morning - it was just a hair above freezing at 5:45am when I kicked Rosemary over. She did not like the cold at first but once running (about 10 kicks) she was fine - even enjoying the added punch the frigid air gave to her tubes. When Tipsy popped off his helmet his head was steaming...looking forward to the scoot home. Now I'm thinking about taking Rosemary downtown tonight for a little El Barzon...
