"Sneaky Dave"

Here's a pic by Sneaky Dave from the Ford/Harley-Davidson Alliance. Unbeknownst to us he was following Tipsy, Tiny and I through the streets of Milwaukee at the 105th party and snapped this shot. There were three other vintage folks riding to the right of us here in period garb. I think the sound of my straight pipes startled them. Thanks for the pic Dave!!!

The Last Wander

70 degrees and sunny. I got up early and headed south into Ohio. Peak colors and an empty road, total bliss.

The road followed the Southern bank of the Maumee river - one of my favorite Ohio rides. From Perrysburg to Defiance the road is PERFECT. You can take it all the way to Indy and beyond.

I love riding all over this country but there is something about the rolling farmlands of North Western Ohio that turns my crank. Ya, it's pretty flat but that means you have long dramatic views to ride into.

Near the end of my Western track near Defiance Ohio I decided to take a brief nap in the warm late afternoon sun. I found a picnic table alongside the Maumee and drifted off for 30 minutes.

Ohioians and Michiganders at war? Still at it today but the guns have been exchanged for a football.

The end of golden hour on the prairie. I could ride into that sun indefinitely.

Finally heading home. It was about 50 degrees here. The sun was about to sink into some far off corn field. I knew this was it for the season here in the North. It was a good one. Got home way after dark, put the bike away and crawled into my warm bed, turned off the alarm. The next day we would elect a new president.

Lake Michigan Thunderhead

Earlier this year I took a day trip to Lake Michigan to meet a friend I had not seen in a long, long time. We did a little riding and then stopped at an open bluff overlooking the lake. There was a strong storm coming in from the West. While we were standing there watching these brutal black clouds approaching us, they lifted and exposed the setting sun. We could not believe what we were looking at - I had never seen colors like that before. I grabbed my camera and clicked a couple off. What you see above is straight from the camera, sans photoshop.

Working late, listening to music, listening to "Television". Jeez these guys were fucking good. Twin guitar interplay like I've never heard before. Duelling solos, strange lyrics and that great 70's back beat. It's really guitar players music without all the typical pretension. Some people call it "arty music" or "punk" but to me it's just maximum rock and roll. Wish I never sold that Jazzmaster....

Photo Shoot

So I've been getting the '39 ULH "ready" for a little feature in one of my favorite bike magazines. Well I finally had the old girl photographed for her debut. It was beautiful today in the mitten which worked out great because it was the day I had arranged a little photo shoot with the notorious Detroit lens men El Dieselaro. The '50 Pan

So I finally had some time to go for a nice long ride on the '50 Pan I picked up a couple months back. After a little oil and air and a general tightening down of everything I left the driveway. WOW is this thing fast. It will pick the front wheel up off the ground from a dead dig and even a roll. It's pretty nimble too. So far I can detect no vices. I have been trying to find info on it's late sixties Autorama debut but have come up with nil. I want to take this bike to Bonneville next year so I now have something to work on through the pending winter/spring. I'll keep you posted...For now here are a couple shots I took today.
