A Western Roll - PT1

July 4th week Shayna and I took off for the West down old Route 66 on a modern Milwaukee bagger once again generously donated to us for the ride by the most righteous of dudes - Dave P. We put about 3800 miles on it in the 10 days we were on the road, rolled through 11 states and lost about 10 pounds each in the relentlessly blazing sun. The hottest it got was 118 in Texas, the coldest was 46 on Independence pass in Colorado where there was still a few inches of snow on the ground near the road. The sky to the west of Santa Fe was full of smoke as something like 40,000 acres are on fire near Los Alamos. It turned the already breathtaking New Mexican sunsets into a sinister blood red with the smell of burning sage and pine drifting into town when the winds shifted. These snaps represent about a third of the trip which was one of the best one's I can remember despite the killer heat. More to come...
