1500mile Weekend...PT2

Rolled out of Detroit around noon on Saturday in the rain, but by the time I slipped under the border it was sunny and 80 degrees and it pretty much stayed that way the entire 3-day ride. Of course nothing but back roads would do and thankfully so because you always come across things you could never plan for like the late George Roeder's HD shop which I mentioned in a post below. From there it was a straight shot south into the twisty parts of Ohio and West Virgina which I got to before sundown. The rest of the ride is a blur of smooth snaking roads, waterfalls, rapids, covered bridges, American flags and unbelievable mountain views. Finished with just over 1500 miles on the odo and a burnt nose back in my driveway. Man, did my soul need that ride - thank god for motorcycles.

When I was a teenager I was at Memphis Motorsports Park and George was still roadracing. It was ungodly hot that weekend. George fell off because he got so hot in his leathers. This was before everyone had perforated leathers for hot weather. Guys in the pits were drilling holes in their leathers with a pistol drill! I'm glad I got to see him race. I still own an H-D Sprint which is what that streamliner engine was based on. Love the ZON. Thanks.
